CONCERT PHOTOGRAPHY

I first started taking an interest in photography through my huge love for live music.
I used to go to any concert I could, even those of unknown bands that I didn’t know, just to catch the feelings on stage.
For me the most important part in a live performance is the interaction between who’s on stage and who’s in the crowd.
I’ve never taken the technical part too much into consideration for this specific reason, because as long as you manage to catch the spark, the connection, the feeling, it doesn’t matter if the image is out of focus or if there’s too much noise, or if the whites are burnt. I actually like the texture given by just the right amount of noise in a photograph and I love high contrast.
Like in any field of my artistic activity, color has a primary importance, that’s why most times I purposely over saturate it in post production.

“THEY ALL REMEMBER”

I've always had a fascination with graveyards, probably because I started being familiar with the notion of death and the cult of the dead since a very early age. I walk through the graves and read the names on the tombstones, wondering about under what circumstances those lives were lost. The older the tombs, the more interesting it gets for me and the most neglected the condition, the more respectful I am. Walking around the Old Jewish cemetery in Warsaw was both beautiful and painful, for I finally understood that no matter how much effort we put in trying not to be forgotten, it will eventually happen to all of us. It's surprisingly liberating to think about that, no matter what we do, there will be a point in history when no one will remember it and the only sign of our passage on this planet will be a broken, neglected tombstone.

INSTANT FILM PHOTOGRAPHY

I’ve always been interested in the concept of instant photography, meaning to immortalize a feeling, a moment, a face, a place, a happening, right here and right now, results variable depending on physical factors such as light, temperature, the warmth of the fingers that press over the film’s surface as you wait for it do develop. Those are all accidental factors that play a very important role in the development on the photograh you take and that make it, in fact, a one of a kind piece.
The fact that the quantity of film sheets is limited to 8-10 and that it’s one shot, one opportunity, give to instant photography that value and charme that digital photography, which can be even more pivotal in immortalizing the moment, will never have.
I use a Fujifilm Instax Mini 7S, a Fujifilm Instax Wide 200 and different vintage Polaroid 600 cameras, with and without flash.
Film for the Polaroid 600 is both Polaroid and IMPOSSIBLE.

Did you know that you can have the clearest vision of the lunar surface in the day time, when the sky is clear and the light reflected by the Moon won’t blur your vision?
Without that blinding light, you can see that what looks perfectly smooth has, indeed, a pretty irregular and worn out texture.
Nothing’s perfect, especially the Moon.

In 2008 I went to Tokyo, my all time Mecca, for the first time.
I was blown away by everything, especially by the people I saw in the streets and by their amazing personal style.
Subcultures, especially in Tokyo and its various disctricts, above all Shibuya, Shinjuku and, naturally, Harajuku, have always had a huge impact in modern Japan, as they’re a way in which youth rebels against the often very strict rules of Japanese society.
